Under know-how you will find current film knowledge, field reports, proven production methods (best practice) and inputs for successful communication with film and video.
The know-how area reflects all areas of video production and the production of moving images in general. Neither the pre-production and related aspects, nor the shooting and post-production digital image editing, sound post-production, color grading and digital effects are excluded.
Know-how / expertise is the first third
Please note that know-how (expertise) is always only one of three parts you need to have for success with video. The other two parts are: experience and talent. Only the combination of all these three elements makes you a professional in video production.
You can acquire specialist knowledge. Likewise, if you work in the industry long enough, you will be able to gain a wealth of experience. But you have talent. Or you don’t.
But you can console yourself with the fact that, especially in contract productions, know-how and experience are more than half the battle. Why? Because it’s always about not only entertaining, but also conveying unmistakable messages to the viewer. Creativity is in demand, but only so much that it doesn’t scare your customers.
Combining theory with practice
In theory, all trees are green. That’s why you don’t just want to learn technical knowledge, but also be able to apply it. You learn this by working on as many film productions as possible. That way you gain valuable experience.
You cannot know everything. But it doesn’t hurt either. Or as director Frank Capra puts it: “In filmmaking there are no rules, only sins. The greatest sin is ignorance.
